A SAGE pricing tier is a quantity break with a net cost. Turning that into a customer-facing list price is where most quote tools cut corners. DECADE.promo handles the standard ABC and PQR margin codes, supports compound codes, and keeps net cost out of customer view by default.
The price code system, briefly
The promo industry uses single-letter codes to describe a margin: A or P is a 50% margin, R or C is 40%, U or F is 25%, and so on across the alphabet. A net cost of $5.00 at code R becomes a customer list of $8.33. Compound codes like "3R2U" mean the first three tiers are at R margin and the next two are at U.
The SAGE catalog publishes a price code with each adopted product. We parse it and compute the customer list price on the fly so a supplier net-cost change automatically flows through to a new list price without manual recalculation.
Who sees what
Distributor staff see net cost, profit, list price, and the price code letters. Customers see the customer-facing list price only. The split is enforced server-side: customer-role API responses strip net, profit, and code fields before they leave the database. Even if a customer opens DevTools, they will not find the supplier cost in the response.
Order-level overrides
Real life is messier than the published tiers. Suppliers raise costs mid-quote. A customer needs an off-tier quantity. A repeat account has a frozen price from an earlier deal. Each order in DECADE.promo carries its own copy of the tier table, editable per-tier, without touching the master product. The order keeps the price the customer agreed to. The master stays clean for the next sale.
